Simpro
Mobile Product Engineering And AI Workflow Prototypes
Built mobile workflows for field technicians, production APIs, legacy fixes, and AI/ML prototypes for field-service use cases.
Highlights
- Delivered cross-platform mobile features for field technicians.
- Fixed customer-reported issues and refactored legacy areas that slowed the app down.
- Won two Simpro Dev Choice Awards and two internal AI/ML hackathons.
Context
Simpro's mobile app supports technicians while they move through job workflows in the field. The hard parts are speed and reliability on constrained devices, plus keeping data in sync with the web and backend systems.
Role and scope
Vincent built cross-platform mobile features with Ionic and Angular, and created and optimised REST APIs with PHP Slim. He also took on high-priority customer issues as they came up.
The role also covered delivery planning, peer reviews, unit and end-to-end testing, and release work.
Technical decisions
Vincent refactored legacy code where it hurt maintainability or performance, especially on older devices where load time and memory use were more visible.
He also built AI proof-of-concepts using LLMs, RAG, LangChain, and AI SDK patterns to explore contextual task support for technician workflows.
Engineering impact
The work helped reduce regressions and made several mobile workflows easier to ship and support.
Recognition included two Simpro Dev Choice Awards and two first-place Simpro Hackathon wins for AI/ML projects.
